The only reason I sacrificed my precious afternoon nap to travel to suburban Bandra to catch this film is its director Mr. Ramesh Sippy.
When I settled inside one of the empty Audi G7 multiplexes, I was reminded of veteran directors’ past.
Indeed, Ramesh Sippy achieved immortality with Sholay (1975) – a cinematic masterpiece and Bollywood’s biggest blockbuster ever.
For audiences of the 80s, Sippy redefined technical brilliance with Shaan (1980), presented the dazzling Dimple Kapadia in Sagar (1985) and two acting legends – Amitabh Bachchan and Dilip Kumar – in Shakti (1982). ) brought face to face. ,
Going downhill since the 90s, Ramesh Sippy had not produced a film for nearly two decades since his disastrous Zamana Deewana (1995). Google tells me that Shimla Mirchi was also a long complete film, but it got delayed by about five years because it didn’t find buyers. Really sad!!

This concept does not fit at all with the Indian environment. Sippy’s previous home production Nautanki Saala (2013) – inspired by another French film Apres Vous (2003) – had a similar problem.
Much grief, the screenplay and dialogues are quite lackluster, especially as the first half drags on at a slow pace.
Sippy spends a lot of time developing his main characters but unfortunately, they don’t involve you at all.
Technically as well, capsicum is pretty much down to the high standards it has set for itself in the past.
Reuniting with her director of superhit films like Andaz (1971), Sita Aur Geeta (1972) and undoubtedly Sholay (1975), Hema Malini has imparted tremendous dignity to some of her bold characters.
In fact, she totally steals the show. Rakul Preet Singh looks beautiful and that’s it.
Rajkummar Rao tries to imitate Shahrukh Khan (and this is not a compliment please)!!!
A parting advice: If you go, stop by the end for a surprise appearance by another legend associated with Sippy.

Bad script, bad story. Just saw it because Hema Malini was in it.
Gave 2 stars for his brilliant acting and Kiran Juneja’s lovely humour.
I wish the director could give him more screen time. Rakul’s role is immature and she dresses like a slut throughout the film – almost every single shot of her has her navy exposed and thighs hanging out. Doesn’t add anything to the story.
Girls do not wear such clothes for everyday use. Rajkumar could have added more life to his role. Please don’t bother to watch.
The only positive thing is that it sends a message to mature women that they should not stop living life just because the husband leaves for someone else.
It’s so awful. a terrifying story. The characters are all irrational and downright buffoonery.
The heroine is a complete psychotic with anger management problems. Apparently Rajkummar Rao’s character has taken a complete break if he comes to his senses and falls in love with him.
Hema Malini’s character is that of a pathetic desperate codependent cringe woman. He looks totally insane in front of Shakti Kapoor which says something as he is usually the overreacting buffoon in movies.
Not even Rajkummar Rao’s naturally amazing acting ability can save this train.
I felt that the premise of the film in the trailer is a real fresh take on the romantic comedy. The idea seemed pretty interesting until I saw the movie.
While there are moments in the film that are funny and endearing, I was quite impressed with the poor performance.
A legend like Hema Malini acted like a caricature of herself, Rajkummar Rao tried his best to save the film, but sadly, the writing, direction and co-actors didn’t really help him much. Rakul Preet’s character is quite disturbing and immature.
I wish the movie was as good as the trailer. I would give the film 5 out of 10 for Rajkummar Rao’s honest effort.
