I went into this film after a colleague’s recommendation. To be honest I wasn’t really fond of random dance sequences (as an American they’re a bit too random for me, though Mr. Vijay can dance really well) but the movie quickly fleshed them out.
I was told a few things before going into this film- it’s a huge “mass masala” so it mixes so many different genres together. And that actor, Vijay, is a huge superstar in the Tamil state that people really adore.
As soon as the film began, the audience just whistled and applauded when his name appeared on the screen! And then when he first appeared in the film, the audience was overjoyed and with so many cheers, I’ve never been in the middle of that kind of crowd. It’s crazy that I haven’t seen any of Vijay’s films yet, but I got chills seeing how much the audience loved him.
And throughout the movie, it was pretty easy to see why: great performances as 3 different people, and he charmed them all. The role of Gaon, in particular, was a brilliant and dynamic performance, he has a huge screen presence and a powerful flair about him.
I have seen that Indian superstars are actually a class apart from that, I can see that these select few are on that level, because of these few intangible things that have won over the audience, that is a quality that makes me one of the biggest. Doesn’t even appear. of Hollywood actors.
Anyway, regarding the story of the actual movie, there were more comic elements in the beginning, I don’t understand some of the jokes, but that’s ok because there is more in this movie. I felt that the first woman’s character was completely unnecessary and the second was acceptable but also not needed.
The third actress, however, was great! Nithya Menon is her name, she and Vijay brought tears to my eyes again and again in the second half, I didn’t expect to be so shaken up! I had similar reactions to some heartwarming scenes in the first half as well, there was a lot of emotional power at the core of the film.
The film was unique to me in the sense that Vijay’s characters stood up so strongly against corruption, malpractices and deceit by the medical industry, especially against the poor – the people who need it the most, but in these scenarios in the end. The most damage is done. A new topic for me, so well handled.
I am not aware that how are the medical policies for patients in India, do people always pay before treatment or is it just certain types of hospitals? I will ask some questions to my colleagues on Monday itself. Another thing was that when Vijay’s characters spoke some dialogues, the crowd applauded, especially during the scenes of his speech where he criticizes the many injustices in the film in front of a large crowd.

Not only did the crowd applaud the film, my audience too! It felt like I was in a movie. and action!! It was tremendous, lots of intense fight scenes with good use of wire-work.
Every hit of Mr. Vijay felt powerful with a lot of emotion: These aren’t your typical “banging up the bad guys because they’re against you” fight scenes, but they feel like a guy who’s gone through so much.
Emotional pain that every punch and kick roars of justice. And wow was the crowd happy and loud during these fights! Really amazing experience, I laughed, cried and got really excited during the film as well. I am now interested to see more Vijay’s films and I will definitely anticipate his next film to release.
Mersal (2017): Out of all the brilliant actors of Kollywood, I think Vijay is overrated. His performance is average, but he excels at dancing. Till now I have seen his best performance only in Thuppaki and Kaathi. In 2017, he already released Bairaava, which is one of the worst films of 2017.
Now is the time for Mersal, which has already achieved the status of highest-grossing Tamil films and has been in news with controversies as BJP objected to scenes mentioning “GST” and “Demonetisation”. Was. “. How is the film? Plot: Maran (Vijay) is an honest doctor who gives medicine for free.
Seeing his service, a famous organization in Europe awards him. This is also the time when Vetri (Vijay) looks like , who is a magician, kills one of the doctors who had come for the same award ceremony. As a result, Maran is arrested by the police. Who is this Vetri? What does he have to do with Maran? And all these murders What’s the scam behind?. You have to watch the film on the big screen to know the answer.
My Review: You can’t escape the feeling of deja vu when you watch the movie Atlee. But that feeling has never been as strong as it is when one watches a morsel.
The director must have been Shankar’s most diligent assistant indeed. Ten minutes into Mersal and you only see Shankar (and Murgadas in parts), not just in terms of treatment, even in tropes and plot points.
As soon as you watch the movie, it’s like you’re playing ‘Spot the Originals’. So when Maran is taken to jail amid the cries of the crowd, you are thinking of Shivaji.
And when Vetri goes into flashback mode, you’re wondering how a young girl dies as a result of a corrupt system. And then, when Thalapathy pulls down a water tanker to douse a huge fire, you are thinking of Baahubali or any Vijayakanth movie. The story is of Apoorva Sagothargal. A father has been brutally murdered. A son takes revenge. The second son is being told as the murderer.
In a sense, it feels like a compilation of scenes from earlier blockbuster movies. Even if you watch excerpts of it on television, you will find it hard to guess which Vijay movie it is.
All his movies look the same. But it doesn’t disprove the film; In fact, it is quite enjoyable. For Vijay fans, Mersal is surely a treat. The entire episode of Paris looks gorgeous but slow.
Samantha’s entry creates some laughter, but it is short lived. The flashback episode is so long, but it’s one of the original parts of the movie with great performances. By Vijay and Nithya Menon.
Vijay has played three roles of a father and two sons. The film totally works on Vijay’s charisma and acting. He is in excellent form here.
Some of the collective moments by Vijay surely make the audience clap. There’s a lot of political dialogue here that appeals to Vijay’s fans, but doesn’t he care about those who aren’t his fans? Technically though, Mersal scores on most fronts. The visuals (by GK Vishnu) are awesome and AR Rahman’s music chips make the overall ‘product’ worthy of a big festival release.
There are several slo-mo shots that could have been edited out to save half an hour of its 2hr50min runtime.
So, Mersal is the highly cliche ura-commercial film that appeals only to Vijay fans and for the rest, it is a mundane entertainer.
