What a boring movie, it took me almost three years oh I mean days to watch this hard-to-sit movie.
The problem isn’t the run-time, no, it’s actually a friendly runtime, it’s poorly written characters and dull story.
To make matters worse, my version of the film is dubbed, poorly dubbed which sometimes makes me want to punch my laptop screen.
The story follows Shania, a fraternity woman working at an online company, with her boss retiring, tasked with digging deeper and finding the stories that are going to blow the company out of the water. .
His boss suggested that he go to India and write stories about the culture and also a way to reconnect with his roots since he was of Indian origin.
Meanwhile, Harbhajan, a police officer in India, is not happy with his duty patrol, and is appointed as Shania to keep her in check.
They started going to weddings after the wedding (hence the title of the film 5 Weddings), all the while developing feelings for each other.
She encounters a group of transgenders and sympathizes with them because of the way they are being treated.
He decides to write about it and post it online, but the Indian Authority is against it, and steals his laptop from Harbhajan and hence creates a rift between them.
After a brief fight, she herself goes to the Authority and gives up all her research but for some reason only the director and writers know, she is forgiven and all her possessions are given back to her. .
She posts them online, and marries Harbhajan and they live happily ever after if something like this happens.
The plot itself is confusing, it started quite differently but completely loses its way in the second act, and the final act is very predictable.
My main problem is the heroine who plays Margi Fakhri, I don’t particularly like her, in fact she is quite upset.
Attempts have been made to highlight his character with a few faint flashbacks but he falls flat.
Police officer Harbhajan, played by Rajkummar Rao, surprised me that he took part in this film, ’cause it seems a little below his pay grade, no? Anyway, his performance is quite good but also not a fan of his character.
Rest of the cast is fine. The film just looks disappointingly low budget, the cinematography is barely average, the music is nothing to talk about.
But I admire the courage of the filmmakers for the message they are trying to convey to the masses.
It’s probably the worst crossover movie I’ve ever seen, and I’m very forgiving considering the number of Bollywood movies and pairings that come out there on a consistent basis.
It’s amateur direction and great acting, it has cliched scenes and dialogues that leave your head dizzy.
It’s a shame as it could have been something good but unfortunately the acting, screenplay and direction let it down.
Don’t bother looking at this, save your time and choose something else
I have seen Bollywood movies and love Priyanka Shopra. The movie really angles with Hijira in particular – nothing was known about them – and it’s shocking how transgenders are treated in some parts of the world.
I went for this film because I read that it was banned in many countries because of transgender characters. What I got was a beautiful film – some comedy, some drama – along the lines of The Big Sick or 100 Foot Journey (of the two I love). If you’re a fan of any of these, catch it – but not for Bollywood. I also loved the lead actress and will add her to my list of favorite actors.
So my previous review got deleted? Anyway thanks to the filmmakers for educating me about hijra. I watched the film with an Indian co-worker who likes the lead actress. But then she gets upset because (according to her) hijras are not treated badly in India! So I googled it last night and found some really sad stories about the treatment of transgenders in India! Its 2018 – lets get along with the game, be more human and progressive minded. In the film, he fell in love with a Hijra woman, Shamla. Please recommend more movies on Hijras.
